When I decided I wanted to start my first Professional Blog – a blog that made an income, I decided to name it “My Mom’s Totally Nuts!” I do what I do best, and I dove in headfirst! I purchased the domain name, and I was off and running.

I realized I was creating blogs for private clients, yet I did not have my own. REALLY Steph? LOL!  I put all the skills, and knowledge I have learned working for various clients to use for myself for the first time.

I knew it was going to take A LOT of work to get my blog up, and running smoothly. I knew I wanted to share a lot of information. I knew I wanted a “lifestyle” blog.  However, what I quickly learned was the fact that I should have used my name Stephanie Nolan for my domain name if I wanted to create a professional blog.

Why would I want to use my real name instead of a cute or funny domain name? Because, when I go, or YOU go to sell products on YOUR blog YOU are the brand!

YOU are what makes YOUR blog different than all the other blogs on the internet.

You must treat your blog like a job. You must set a schedule. You must give your blog attention. How will your blog following and income grow if you do not put in the work?

If you want to start a professional blog – a blog where you make an income –I do not recommend creating a journal type blog.

A journal type blog is a blog that you use as a diary. I am sure you have run across a few, or maybe even followed a couple before or even today.

Journal blogs are fun; however, they are VERY hard to make money.

WHY? Because, what do journal type blogs really help others with?

Every single day I MUST market my blog on Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest, StumbleUpon, and more.

Every single day, I post a total of 15-20 posts! I pin a few times a day. I tweet a few times a day. I promote my blog, and my eBoooks on G+, LinkedIn, and more.  

Then, there are days where I am involved in a linky party!

A linky party is a virtual party where bloggers can come and leave a link to their favorite post, etc. for that week.

I truly believe that when you start blogging you need to dive in headfirst. YOU MUST devote the time.

YOU MUST post SEVERAL articles. I shoot for 20, to begin with. If you want to be approved for AdSense (I will explain what AdSense is later) you MUST do ALL OF THIS.

However, you can do it around YOUR schedule! If you work outside the home, set aside a few hours in the evening to work on your blog when you first get started.

Once you have a stable blog, you can work on it an hour a day, or as much as you wish. The more time you invest in your blog, the more money you can potentially make.
